1. With very few discretionary powers for President, is the post of President in India a redundancy ?
2. Pardoning power of President of India is not absolute. Comment in the light of recent Supreme Court guidelines for dealing with mercy petitions.
3. Election campaign of President is no longer confined to closed rooms. Explain with reasons in the context of latest Presidential election.
4. Budget is no longer a statement of accounts and it has become a major instrument for government to announce its policies. Comment.

ReplyDelete• India is a country with parliamentary form of government .So,the powers are vested in council of ministers headed by PM.
ReplyDelete• President is a symbolic head.He represents the unity and solidarity of the nation.
• The authority and power in india is divided among three constitutional bodies namely: the Executive,Legislature and Judiciary.
• All these bodies are interlinked and the dominance of anyone can lead to dictatorship.
• Executive controls the legislature and vice-versa.Judiciary controls the both and judiciary is being controlled by both.Hence there is a mutual check among the constitutional bodies.
• A proposed policy should get pass through all these bodies to become valid.
• For instance,If a member of either house of parliament want to propose a bill regarding “changes in tax system” then the steps involved are
• 1 majority of both the houses of parliament should accept
• 2 need approval of President
• 3 even though it becomes act by now,Supreme court has the right to make it invalid if it has gone against the constitution.
• Thus making the system interdepandable and cutting the power of each body at regular intervals by each other.
• President plays a elderly role in the Parliamentary form of Democracy in India. He protects the government from taking any hasty decisions and also from monarchy of any one person or body.
• Hence we can infer that the post of President is required as much as that of PM
